O n June 1, 2011, our Heavenly Father opened the gates of Heaven and called to rest, the beloved soul of Dilsey Mae Carter. She was born in Lauringburg, North Carolina to the union of Beatrice Monroe and John W. White. She was raised by her mother Beatrice Cole and her father, Leroy Cole.
She attended Shaw High Elementary School in Lauringburg, NC. After her family moved to Greensboro, NC she attended, J.C. Price School and Dudley High school. Dilsey Carter married Eugene Carter and there were six children born to this union. She worked as a professional housekeeper for over 25 years. Dilsey Carter was also a member of New Life Faith Outreach Church in Mebane, NC where she gave her life to the Lord and remained a member there under the leadership of Pastor Harold H. Farr, Jr.
Dilsey Carter was a sweet, kind, loving and strong woman. She was a true nurturer at heart and she grew up taking care of her younger siblings. At the direction of her mother, Beatrice Cole, Dilsey started cooking at the age of 9 and learned to cook very well. She had a little stool that she stood on to cook for her two brothers and seven sisters. As a result of having seven sisters, Dilsey also became very proficient at hairdressing at a very young age as well. She is fondly remembered for giving her younger sisters, daughters, nieces and grand daughters Shirley Temple curls. Dilsey Carter was a devoted mother who loved cooking for her church, family and friends.
Dilsey Carter was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Carter, her mother, Beatrice Cole, her fathers Leroy Cole,(John W. White), her sister, Rosa White and brother, Roman Cole. She leaves to cherish her memory:: Six children - Deidra W. White, Phillip Carter, Michael Carter (Stacy Carter), Pamela Carter, Regina Carter, Melaine C. Williams (Arenda Williams); Six sisters – Minister Katie Ruffin, Elder Ernestine Kendall (Bishop Willie Kendall), Laura Leath (Bobby Leath), Elizabeth Wright (Glenn Wright), Betty Jean Armstrong and one brother – Bobby G. Cole and one brother-in-law – Jerry Carter;;Seventeen grandchildren; Fifteen great grandchildren; Twenty-one great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Funeral Service is scheduled for Sunday, June 5, 2011 at the House of Refuge Deliverance Ministries Church, 3008 Bessemer Avenue, Greensboro, NC.
Visitation starts at 1:30pm with service 2pm.
