Greensboro, NC. Steven Allen Cheek, 59. of Greensboro, NC departed this earthly life on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Moses Cone Hospital. Butch, as he was called by family and friends, was born on July 28, 1957, a son of the late Minerva Ann Cheek Barnhardt. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Randy Cheek and Gregory Barnhardt. He was educated in the Guilford County School System. For several years, he worked for Paul Walker Concrete Company, where he was a concrete finisher. Butch had a passion for cooking on the grill, frying fish, and helping in any way he could. He took pride in his special dishes and was always giving advice on how to cook. The joy of laughter filled the air when Butch was there telling jokes and sharing stories. His goal in life was to make you laugh and he was good at it. He will be missed greatly. Butch leaves to cherish his memories, his children Shebby Allred and Steve Watson. He has five brothers, John Cheek, Raymond Cheek, Michael Cheek, Ronald Barnhardt and Reginald Barnhardt; three sisters, Deborah Williamson, Terri Cheek and Tina Pegues (Fredrick). He has a second Mama, his aunt, Dorothy Fuller. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A homegoing celebration will be held on April 21, 2017 at Bethel AME Church, 200 N. Regan St., Greensboro, NC. Visitation with the family begins at 12 p.m., followed by the service at 1 p.m. Service is entrusted to Allen and Associates, Mortuary Cremations, 508 Summit Avenue.
