Obituary

Ms. Thelma Johnson McCoy entered eternal rest on Saturday June 19, 2021. Thelma Johnson McCoy, daughter of the late Clarence and Janie Reaves Johnson, was born April 18, 1935, in Mullins SC. Thelma was educated in Palmetta High school in Mullins. SC and after marrying the love of her life, Gus McCoy on October 10, 1958, she relocated to Greensboro NC in 1958. Thelma was a homemaker for many years and later provided personal in-home care to seniors. She was a devoted member of Hayes Memorial United Holy Church and served in the usher ministry. Thelma loved entertaining her friends and family, shopping and her daily morning strolls. In her earlier years, Thelma enjoyed occasional fishing trips with her husband. She leaves to cherish her memories 2 sons, Dwight P. (Vicki) McCoy & Greg W. (Toni) McCoy. Thelma's grandchildren included Amanda McCoy, Dwright Bell, Brain Gibbs, Shundri Morgan and Onyell Banks; a Goddaughter, Natasha Vann and 6 great grandchildren. Thelma was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Huston Clarence Jr. , William H. and Willie "Spooly" Johnson and 1 sister Ester Johnson. She will be sadly missed by her sisters, Mary Ruth McDuffie, NC, Louise (Elijah) Moses, Ewing, NJ, Valtrene (Ervin Gibbs, Atlanta, GA, (jean (Henry) Burges, Greensboro NC, Carolyn (Elijah) Canty, Greensboro NC, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
