James Brooks Obituary

James Byron Brooks, 63, consistently kept an unwavering strong will to live and to come home. But, on Sunday August 30th, 2020 he lost his courageous long fight to Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) at Hospice & Palliative Care of Greensboro, NC.

James, endearingly called ‘Jimmy’ by most was born in Siler City, NC of Chatham County to the proud parents of the late Billy J. Brooks and Mary D. Brooks on June 7th, 1957.

At a young age, Jimmy was baptized at St. James Baptist Church in Greensboro, NC and later in life attended there as an adult member.  He was a graduate of Walter Hines Page High School in Greensboro.  After High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army for 4 years of honorable service (1975-1979) as a Corporal Infantryman.  Jimmy later went to work for the formerly known Andco Industries in Greensboro for over 15 years as a welder of manufactured custom and architectural company signs.  He also worked for Norside Imports in Greensboro for over 8 years as a professional auto detailer.  Jimmy was very skilled and quite exceptional with his hands.  Whether it was his past career work; building toy model cars in his younger years; lawn care maintenance; various repairs on personal vehicles; or, handyman home projects.….Jimmy rarely needed manual directions/instructions nor supervision, which made him the extremely dependable chosen “go-to” person.

Jimmy was a friendly, mild-mannered, easy-going man of few words who had a gentle and patient spirit with a huge caring/giving heart. He absolutely loved good food especially, home-cooking! His big appetite could ALWAYS make room for his favorite junk foods: Mayberry or Cook-Out’s Hotdogs, McDonald’s Burgers and ‘his cookies’ he called them...properly known as: Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme Pies. He truly was content with a full belly and simple pleasures like being outside on the front porch or, watching ‘his Cowboys not, the NFL Team’...it was the old Western TV Shows he enjoyed most.  Jimmy  was a loving son, brother, former husband, father, grandfather, close companion and loyal friend.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his beloved brother Malcolm D. Brooks and loving father Billy J. Brooks;

He leaves to celebrate his life Mother: Mary D. Brooks of Greensboro, NC; Brothers: Larry Covington of Asheboro, NC & Gary Brooks of Greensboro, NC; Sister: Mary Lynn Brooks of Gibsonville, NC; Longtime Companion: Loretta Jordan of Greensboro, NC; 2nd Cousin (Honorary Brother-Best Friend): Leroy Rodgers of Greensboro, NC; One daughter: Tamika Boateng (Anthony) of Charlotte, NC; One son: James Brooks (Fiance Melissa Hill) of Greensboro, NC; One daughter: Corvette Brooks of Greensboro, NC; Seven Grandchildren: Noah Braswell, Jonah Brooks, Josalin Boateng, Caleb Brooks, Ivy Skye Brooks, Kingston James Brooks and Julian Boateng; and, Former Wife: Cavada Brooks of Greensboro, NC along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
